I guess The Hindu’s not all bad
– I read an awesome article today on Zero Corruption Day. These youngsters are walking from Kanyakumari to Delhi to promote self-improvement. Their website shows their planned itinerary: http://www.zerocorruptionday.com/
What struck me immediately are two points:
- They’re trying to live on 32 Rs a day! So, they’re looking at the definition of the poverty line and challenging its authenticity – so far they’ve averaged Rs. 70 a day; a stark indicator that we need to address the economic challenges first
- The focus on self ahead of society. The Lokpal bill is a legal tool that seeks to address the symptoms of corruption, but it will never fix the social causes of this problem
