Keeping your Windows PC in shape – App updates

Why update? Not wasting my time on that question.

If you’re a Linux user, you have it a bit easier than the Windows users frankly and do not need much in this area. For Windows users MS or M$ as some like to call them keeps MS apps up to date with the regular windows update service. The rest of the apps on the Windows ecosystem have to fare for themselves. And that is a problem that needed solving.

I think the first time solution I noticed was from C.NET or one of the other software repositories that one could download software from way back in the early 2000’s. They had an option to automatically keep the software you downloaded from their site up to date.

Modern apps have reminders and pop-ups to remind you to keep your apps up to date, but it’s annoying to do it for each app separately. Now here is “Patch My PC” which takes the hassle of keeping your apps up to date. It is a free service for home users and they offer a professional packages for enterprises – look it up.

I just installed it on my PC today and I expect it will keep all the apps I have from their catalog of 300+ third party apps up to date. I should set this up for the PCs in my family and save them the trouble too.
